Prayers in the Bible Index:
- Psalm 51:1-19 Acknowledgement of sin - Seeking God's mercy
Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness:
according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions. Wash me
throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. For I acknowledge my transgressions:
and my sin is ever before me. Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done this evil
in thy sight: that thou mightest be justified when thou speakest, and be clear when thou
judgest.
Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me. Behold,
thou desirest truth in the inward parts: and in the hidden part thou shalt make me to know
wisdom. Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
Make me to hear joy and gladness; that the bones which thou hast broken may rejoice. Hide
thy face from my sins, and blot out all mine iniquities. Create in me a clean heart, O God;
and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy
holy spirit from me.
Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free
spirit. Then will I teach transgressors thy ways; and sinners shall be converted unto thee.
Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, thou God of my salvation: and my tongue shall sing
aloud of thy righteousness.
O Lord, open thou my lips; and my mouth shall shew forth thy
praise. For thou desirest not sacrifice; else would I give it: thou delightest not in burnt
offering. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God,
thou wilt not despise. Do good in thy good pleasure unto Zion: build thou the walls of Jerusalem.
Then shalt thou be pleased with the sacrifices of righteousness, with burnt offering and whole
burnt offering: then shall they offer bullocks upon thine altar.
- Nehemiah 1:5-11 Confession of sin
And said, I beseech thee, O LORD God of heaven, the great and terrible God, that
keepeth covenant and mercy for them that love him and observe his commandments:
Let thine ear now be attentive, and thine eyes open, that thou mayest hear the
prayer of thy servant, which I pray before thee now, day and night, for the
children of Israel thy servants, and confess the sins of the children of Israel,
which we have sinned against thee: both I and my father's house have sinned.
We have dealt very corruptly against thee, and have not kept the commandments, nor
the statutes, nor the judgments, which thou commandedst thy servant Moses.
Remember, I beseech thee, the word that thou commandedst thy servant Moses,
saying, If ye transgress, I will scatter you abroad among the nations: But
if ye turn unto me, and keep my commandments, and do them; though there were
of you cast out unto the uttermost part of the heaven, yet will I gather them
from thence, and will bring them unto the place that I have chosen to set my
name there.
Now these are thy servants and thy people, whom thou hast redeemed
by thy great power, and by thy strong hand. O Lord, I beseech thee, let now thine
ear be attentive to the prayer of thy servant, and to the prayer of thy servants,
who desire to fear thy name: and prosper, I pray thee, thy servant this day, and
grant him mercy in the sight of this man. For I was the king's cupbearer.

- 1 Chronicles 29:10-13 Adoring God for who He is
Wherefore David blessed the LORD before all the congregation: and David said,
Blessed be thou, LORD God of Israel our father, for ever and ever. Thine, O LORD,
is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty:
for all that is in the heaven and in the earth is thine; thine is the kingdom, O
LORD, and thou art exalted as head above all. Both riches and honour come of thee,
and thou reignest over all; and in thine hand is power and might; and in thine hand
it is to make great, and to give strength unto all. Now therefore, our God, we thank
thee, and praise thy glorious name.
- Exodus 15:2 Praise for salvation
The LORD is my strength and song, and he is become my salvation: he is my God,
and I will prepare him an habitation; my father's God, and I will exalt him.
- Deuteronomy 32:3-4 God is unchanging
Because I will publish the name of the LORD: ascribe ye greatness unto our God.
He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways are judgment: a God of truth
and without iniquity, just and right is he.
- 2 Samuel 22:2-4 Saved from enemies
And he said, The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; The God of my
rock; in him will I trust: he is my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high
tower, and my refuge, my saviour; thou savest me from violence. I will call on the
LORD, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies.
- 1 Chronicles 16:23-36 What God has done
Sing unto the LORD, all the earth; shew forth from day to day his salvation.
Declare his glory among the heathen; his marvellous works among all nations. For
great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised: he also is to be feared above all gods.
For all the gods of the people are idols: but the LORD made the heavens.
Glory and honour are in his presence; strength and gladness are in his place. Give unto the
LORD, ye kindreds of the people, give unto the LORD glory and strength. Give unto
the LORD the glory due unto his name: bring an offering, and come before him:
worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness.
Fear before him, all the earth: the
world also shall be stable, that it be not moved. Let the heavens be glad, and
let the earth rejoice: and let men say among the nations, The LORD reigneth. Let
the sea roar, and the fulness thereof: let the fields rejoice, and all that is
therein. Then shall the trees of the wood sing out at the presence of the LORD,
because he cometh to judge the earth.
O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good;
for his mercy endureth for ever. And say ye, Save us, O God of our salvation, and
gather us together, and deliver us from the heathen, that we may give thanks to
thy holy name, and glory in thy praise. Blessed be the LORD God of Israel for ever
and ever. And all the people said, Amen, and praised the LORD.
- 1 Chronicles 29:10-19 Guidance
Wherefore David blessed the LORD before all the congregation: and David said, Blessed
be thou, LORD God of Israel our father, for ever and ever. Thine, O LORD, is the greatness,
and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty: for all that is in the heaven
and in the earth is thine; thine is the kingdom, O LORD, and thou art exalted as head above
all. Both riches and honour come of thee, and thou reignest over all; and in thine hand is
power and might; and in thine hand it is to make great, and to give strength unto all. Now
therefore, our God, we thank thee, and praise thy glorious name.
But who am I, and what is
my people, that we should be able to offer so willingly after this sort? for all things come
of thee, and of thine own have we given thee. For we are strangers before thee, and sojourners,
as were all our fathers: our days on the earth are as a shadow, and there is none abiding.
O LORD our God, all this store that we have prepared to build thee an house for thine holy
name cometh of thine hand, and is all thine own.
I know also, my God, that thou triest the
heart, and hast pleasure in uprightness. As for me, in the uprightness of mine heart I have
willingly offered all these things: and now have I seen with joy thy people, which are present
here, to offer willingly unto thee. O LORD God of Abraham, Isaac, and of Israel, our fathers,
keep this for ever in the imagination of the thoughts of the heart of thy people, and prepare
their heart unto thee: And give unto Solomon my son a perfect heart, to keep thy commandments,
thy testimonies, and thy statutes, and to do all these things, and to build the palace, for
the which I have made provision.
- Luke 1:68-79 Relationship with God
Blessed be the Lord God of Israel; for he hath visited and redeemed his people, And
hath raised up an horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David; As he
spake by the mouth of his holy prophets, which have been since the world began: That
we should be saved from our enemies, and from the hand of all that hate us; To perform
the mercy promised to our fathers, and to remember his holy covenant; The oath which
he sware to our father Abraham, That he would grant unto us, that we being delivered
out of the hand of our enemies might serve him without fear, In holiness and righteousness
before him, all the days of our life.
And thou, child, shalt be called the prophet of the
Highest: for thou shalt go before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways; To give knowledge
of salvation unto his people by the remission of their sins, Through the tender mercy of our
God; whereby the dayspring from on high hath visited us, To give light to them that sit in
darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.

- Psalm 105:1-7 For what God has done
O give thanks unto the LORD; call upon his name: make known his deeds among the people.
Sing unto him, sing psalms unto him: talk ye of all his wondrous works. Glory ye in his
holy name: let the heart of them rejoice that seek the LORD. Seek the LORD, and his
strength: seek his face evermore. Remember his marvellous works that he hath done;
his wonders, and the judgments of his mouth; O ye seed of Abraham his servant, ye
children of Jacob his chosen. He is the LORD our God: his judgments are in all the earth.
- 1 Samuel 2:1-10 Answered prayer
And Hannah prayed, and said, My heart rejoiceth in the LORD, mine horn is exalted in
the LORD: my mouth is enlarged over mine enemies; because I rejoice in thy salvation.
There is none holy as the LORD: for there is none beside thee: neither is there any
rock like our God. Talk no more so exceeding proudly; let not arrogancy come out of
your mouth: for the LORD is a God of knowledge, and by him actions are weighed. The
bows of the mighty men are broken, and they that stumbled are girded with strength.
They that were full have hired out themselves for bread; and they that were hungry
ceased: so that the barren hath born seven; and she that hath many children is waxed
feeble.
The LORD killeth, and maketh alive: he bringeth down to the grave, and bringeth
up. The LORD maketh poor, and maketh rich: he bringeth low, and lifteth up. He raiseth
up the poor out of the dust, and lifteth up the beggar from the dunghill, to set them
among princes, and to make them inherit the throne of glory: for the pillars of the
earth are the LORD'S, and he hath set the world upon them.
He will keep the feet of
his saints, and the wicked shall be silent in darkness; for by strength shall no man
prevail. The adversaries of the LORD shall be broken to pieces; out of heaven shall
he thunder upon them: the LORD shall judge the ends of the earth; and he shall give
strength unto his king, and exalt the horn of his anointed.
- 2 Samuel 7:18-29 For God's blessings
Then went king David in, and sat before the LORD, and he said, Who am I, O Lord GOD?
and what is my house, that thou hast brought me hitherto? And this was yet a small
thing in thy sight, O Lord GOD; but thou hast spoken also of thy servant's house for
a great while to come. And is this the manner of man, O Lord GOD? And what can David
say more unto thee? for thou, Lord GOD, knowest thy servant. For thy word's sake,
and according to thine own heart, hast thou done all these great things, to make
thy servant know them.
Wherefore thou art great, O LORD God: for there is none
like thee, neither is there any God beside thee, according to all that we have
heard with our ears. And what one nation in the earth is like thy people, even
like Israel, whom God went to redeem for a people to himself, and to make him a
name, and to do for you great things and terrible, for thy land, before thy people,
which thou redeemedst to thee from Egypt, from the nations and their gods? For thou
hast confirmed to thyself thy people Israel to be a people unto thee for ever: and
thou, LORD, art become their God.
And now, O LORD God, the word that thou hast spoken
concerning thy servant, and concerning his house, establish it for ever, and do as thou
hast said. And let thy name be magnified for ever, saying, The LORD of hosts is the
God over Israel: and let the house of thy servant David be established before thee.
For thou, O LORD of hosts, God of Israel, hast revealed to thy servant, saying, I
will build thee an house: therefore hath thy servant found in his heart to pray this
prayer unto thee.
And now, O Lord GOD, thou art that God, and thy words be true, and
thou hast promised this goodness unto thy servant: Therefore now let it please thee
to bless the house of thy servant, that it may continue for ever before thee: for thou,
O Lord GOD, hast spoken it: and with thy blessing let the house of thy servant be
blessed for ever.
- Daniel 2:20-23 Wisdom and strength
Daniel answered and said, Blessed be the name of God for ever and ever: for wisdom
and might are his: And he changeth the times and the seasons: he removeth kings, and
setteth up kings: he giveth wisdom unto the wise, and knowledge to them that know
understanding: He revealeth the deep and secret things: he knoweth what is in the
darkness, and the light dwelleth with him. I thank thee, and praise thee, O thou
God of my fathers, who hast given me wisdom and might, and hast made known unto
me now what we desired of thee: for thou hast now made known unto us the king's
matter.
- Luke 2:29-32 Salvation
Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word:
For mine eyes have seen thy salvation, Which thou hast prepared before the
face of all people; A light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy
people Israel.
- 1 Corinthians 1:4-9 For others' gifts
I thank my God always on your behalf, for the grace of God which is given
you by Jesus Christ; That in every thing ye are enriched by him, in all utterance,
and in all knowledge; Even as the testimony of Christ was confirmed in you: So that
ye come behind in no gift; waiting for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ: Who
shall also confirm you unto the end, that ye may be blameless in the day of our
Lord Jesus Christ. God is faithful, by whom ye were called unto the fellowship
of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord.

- Exodus 32:11-13
And Moses besought the LORD his God, and said, LORD, why doth thy wrath wax hot
against thy people, which thou hast brought forth out of the land of Egypt with
great power, and with a mighty hand? Wherefore should the Egyptians speak, and
say, For mischief did he bring them out, to slay them in the mountains, and to
consume them from the face of the earth? Turn from thy fierce wrath, and repent
of this evil against thy people. Remember Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, thy servants,
to whom thou swarest by thine own self, and saidst unto them, I will multiply your
seed as the stars of heaven, and all this land that I have spoken of will I give
unto your seed, and they shall inherit it for ever.
- Exodus 32:31-32
And Moses returned unto the LORD, and said, Oh, this people have sinned a great sin,
and have made them gods of gold. Yet now, if thou wilt forgive their sin--; and if not,
blot me, I pray thee, out of thy book which thou hast written.
- Philippians 1:9-11 Love towards others
And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and
in all judgment; That ye may approve things that are excellent; that ye may be
sincere and without offence till the day of Christ; Being filled with the fruits
of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God.
- Romans 1:8-10 A prayer for believers
First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for you all, that your faith is spoken
of throughout the whole world. For God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit
in the gospel of his Son, that without ceasing I make mention of you always in my
prayers; Making request, if by any means now at length I might have a prosperous
journey by the will of God to come unto you.
- 2 Corinthians 13:7-9 Spiritual growth and maturity
Now I pray to God that ye do no evil; not that we should appear approved, but that
ye should do that which is honest, though we be as reprobates. For we can do nothing
against the truth, but for the truth. For we are glad, when we are weak, and ye are
strong: and this also we wish, even your perfection.
- Ephesians 1:15-19 Wisdom and spiritual growth
Wherefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus, and love unto
all the saints, Cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers;
That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit
of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: The eyes of your understanding being
enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of
the glory of his inheritance in the saints, And what is the exceeding greatness of his
power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power,
- Ephesians 3:14-19 To know Christ's love
For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, Of whom
the whole family in heaven and earth is named, That he would grant you, according
to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the
inner man; That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted
and grounded in love, May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth,
and length, and depth, and height; And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge,
that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.
- Colossians 1:3-14 Spiritual understanding
We give thanks to God and the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, praying always for you,
Since we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus, and of the love which ye have to all the
saints, For the hope which is laid up for you in heaven, whereof ye heard before in the
word of the truth of the gospel; Which is come unto you, as it is in all the world; and
bringeth forth fruit, as it doth also in you, since the day ye heard of it, and knew the
grace of God in truth: As ye also learned of Epaphras our dear fellowservant, who is for
you a faithful minister of Christ; Who also declared unto us your love in the Spirit.
For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and
to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and
spiritual understanding; That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing,
being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God; Strengthened
with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with
joyfulness; Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the
inheritance of the saints in light: Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and
hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: In whom we have redemption through
his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:
- Hebrews 13:20-21 Spiritual maturity
Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great
shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, Make you perfect
in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is wellpleasing in his sight,
through Jesus Christ; to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

- 1 Kings 8:56-61 Loyalty to God and His work
Blessed be the LORD, that hath given rest unto his people Israel, according to
all that he promised: there hath not failed one word of all his good promise,
which he promised by the hand of Moses his servant. The LORD our God be with us,
as he was with our fathers: let him not leave us, nor forsake us: That he may incline
our hearts unto him, to walk in all his ways, and to keep his commandments, and his
statutes, and his judgments, which he commanded our fathers. And let these my words,
wherewith I have made supplication before the LORD, be nigh unto the LORD our God day
and night, that he maintain the cause of his servant, and the cause of his people Israel
at all times, as the matter shall require: That all the people of the earth may know that
the LORD is God, and that there is none else. Let your heart therefore be perfect
with the LORD our God, to walk in his statutes, and to keep his commandments, as
at this day.
- Acts 4:24-30 Loyalty to God and His work
And when they heard that, they lifted up their voice to God with one accord,
and said, Lord, thou art God, which hast made heaven, and earth, and the sea,
and all that in them is: Who by the mouth of thy servant David hast said, Why
did the heathen rage, and the people imagine vain things? The kings of the earth
stood up, and the rulers were gathered together against the Lord, and against his
Christ. For of a truth against thy holy child Jesus, whom thou hast anointed, both
Herod, and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles, and the people of Israel, were gathered
together, For to do whatsoever thy hand and thy counsel determined before to be done.
And now, Lord, behold their threatenings: and grant unto thy servants, that with all
boldness they may speak thy word, By stretching forth thine hand to heal; and that
signs and wonders may be done by the name of thy holy child Jesus.

- Daniel 9:4-19 Seeking mercy for sin
And I prayed unto the LORD my God, and made my confession, and said, O Lord,
the great and dreadful God, keeping the covenant and mercy to them that love him,
and to them that keep his commandments; We have sinned, and have committed iniquity,
and have done wickedly, and have rebelled, even by departing from thy precepts and
from thy judgments: Neither have we hearkened unto thy servants the prophets, which
spake in thy name to our kings, our princes, and our fathers, and to all the people
of the land.
O Lord, righteousness belongeth unto thee, but unto us confusion of
faces, as at this day; to the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem,
and unto all Israel, that are near, and that are far off, through all the countries
whither thou hast driven them, because of their trespass that they have trespassed
against thee.
O Lord, to us belongeth confusion of face, to our kings, to our princes,
and to our fathers, because we have sinned against thee. To the Lord our God belong
mercies and forgivenesses, though we have rebelled against him; Neither have we obeyed
the voice of the LORD our God, to walk in his laws, which he set before us by his
servants the prophets. Yea, all Israel have transgressed thy law, even by departing,
that they might not obey thy voice; therefore the curse is poured upon us, and the
oath that is written in the law of Moses the servant of God, because we have sinned
against him. And he hath confirmed his words, which he spake against us, and against
our judges that judged us, by bringing upon us a great evil: for under the whole
heaven hath not been done as hath been done upon Jerusalem.
As it is written in the
law of Moses, all this evil is come upon us: yet made we not our prayer before the
LORD our God, that we might turn from our iniquities, and understand thy truth.
Therefore hath the LORD watched upon the evil, and brought it upon us: for the LORD
our God is righteous in all his works which he doeth: for we obeyed not his voice.
And now, O Lord our God, that hast brought thy people forth out of the land of Egypt
with a mighty hand, and hast gotten thee renown, as at this day; we have sinned, we
have done wickedly.
O Lord, according to all thy righteousness, I beseech thee, let
thine anger and thy fury be turned away from thy city Jerusalem, thy holy mountain:
because for our sins, and for the iniquities of our fathers, Jerusalem and thy people
are become a reproach to all that are about us. Now therefore, O our God, hear the
prayer of thy servant, and his supplications, and cause thy face to shine upon thy
sanctuary that is desolate, for the Lord's sake.
O my God, incline thine ear, and
hear; open thine eyes, and behold our desolations, and the city which is called by
thy name: for we do not present our supplications before thee for our righteousnesses,
but for thy great mercies. O Lord, hear; O Lord, forgive; O Lord, hearken and do;
defer not, for thine own sake, O my God: for thy city and thy people are called by
thy name.
- 1 Kings 8:23-30 God to hear and forgive
And he said, LORD God of Israel, there is no God like thee, in heaven above, or
on earth beneath, who keepest covenant and mercy with thy servants that walk before
thee with all their heart: Who hast kept with thy servant David my father that thou
promisedst him: thou spakest also with thy mouth, and hast fulfilled it with thine
hand, as it is this day.
Therefore now, LORD God of Israel, keep with thy servant
David my father that thou promisedst him, saying, There shall not fail thee a man
in my sight to sit on the throne of Israel; so that thy children take heed to their
way, that they walk before me as thou hast walked before me.
And now, O God of Israel,
let thy word, I pray thee, be verified, which thou spakest unto thy servant David my
father. But will God indeed dwell on the earth? behold, the heaven and heaven of heavens
cannot contain thee; how much less this house that I have builded? Yet have thou respect
unto the prayer of thy servant, and to his supplication, O LORD my God, to hearken unto
the cry and to the prayer, which thy servant prayeth before thee to day: That thine eyes
may be open toward this house night and day, even toward the place of which thou hast
said, My name shall be there: that thou mayest hearken unto the prayer which thy
servant shall make toward this place. And hearken thou to the supplication of thy
servant, and of thy people Israel, when they shall pray toward this place: and hear
thou in heaven thy dwelling place: and when thou hearest, forgive.
- Ezra 9:6 Sorrow for sin
And said, O my God, I am ashamed and blush to lift up my face to thee, my God:
for our iniquities are increased over our head, and our trespass is grown up
unto the heavens.
- Nehemiah 9:32-33 Mercy
Now therefore, our God, the great, the mighty, and the terrible God, who keepest
covenant and mercy, let not all the trouble seem little before thee, that hath come
upon us, on our kings, on our princes, and on our priests, and on our prophets,
and on our fathers, and on all thy people, since the time of the kings of Assyria
unto this day. Howbeit thou art just in all that is brought upon us; for thou hast
done right, but we have done wickedly:
- Job 42:1-6 Repentance
Then Job answered the LORD, and said, I know that thou canst do every thing, and that
no thought can be withholden from thee. Who is he that hideth counsel without knowledge?
therefore have I uttered that I understood not; things too wonderful for me, which I
knew not. Hear, I beseech thee, and I will speak: I will demand of thee, and declare
thou unto me. I have heard of thee by the hearing of the ear: but now mine eye seeth
thee. Wherefore I abhor myself, and repent in dust and ashes.
- Isaiah 64:8-9 Mercy
But now, O LORD, thou art our father; we are the clay, and thou our potter; and
we all are the work of thy hand. Be not wroth very sore, O LORD, neither remember
iniquity for ever: behold, see, we beseech thee, we are all thy people.

- Psalms 23:1-6 God is all-sufficient
The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to
lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth
my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Yea,
though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil:
for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a
table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil;
my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my
life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.

- Numbers 6:24-26 God's blessing
The LORD bless thee, and keep thee: The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and
be gracious unto thee: The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give
thee peace.
- 1 Thessalonians 5:23-24 Holiness
And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit
and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.
- 2 Thessalonians 2:13-17 Comfort
But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord,
because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification
of the Spirit and belief of the truth: Whereunto he called you by our gospel, to
the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, brethren, stand fast,
and hold the traditions which ye have been taught, whether by word, or our epistle.
Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God, even our Father, which hath loved us,
and hath given us everlasting consolation and good hope through grace, Comfort your
hearts, and stablish you in every good word and work.

- 1 Samuel 1:11 Barreness
And she vowed a vow, and said, O LORD of hosts, if thou wilt indeed look on the
affliction of thine handmaid, and remember me, and not forget thine handmaid,
but wilt give unto thine handmaid a man child, then I will give him unto the
LORD all the days of his life, and there shall no razor come upon his head.
- 1 Kings 3:6-9 Understanding and discernment
And Solomon said, Thou hast shewed unto thy servant David my father great mercy,
according as he walked before thee in truth, and in righteousness, and in uprightness
of heart with thee; and thou hast kept for him this great kindness, that thou hast
given him a son to sit on his throne, as it is this day. And now, O LORD my God,
thou hast made thy servant king instead of David my father: and I am but a little child:
I know not how to go out or come in. And thy servant is in the midst of thy people which
thou hast chosen, a great people, that cannot be numbered nor counted for multitude.
Give therefore thy servant an understanding heart to judge thy people, that I may discern
between good and bad: for who is able to judge this thy so great a people?
- 1 Kings 18:36-37 For God to be known
And it came to pass at the time of the offering of the evening sacrifice, that
Elijah the prophet came near, and said, LORD God of Abraham, Isaac, and of Israel,
let it be known this day that thou art God in Israel, and that I am thy servant,
and that I have done all these things at thy word. Hear me, O LORD, hear me, that
this people may know that thou art the LORD God, and that thou hast turned their
heart back again.
- Isaiah 25:1-5 In time of need
O LORD, thou art my God; I will exalt thee, I will praise thy name; for thou hast
done wonderful things; thy counsels of old are faithfulness and truth. For thou
hast made of a city an heap; of a defenced city a ruin: a palace of strangers to
be no city; it shall never be built. Therefore shall the strong people glorify
thee, the city of the terrible nations shall fear thee. For thou hast been a strength
to the poor, a strength to the needy in his distress, a refuge from the storm, a shadow
from the heat, when the blast of the terrible ones is as a storm against the wall.
Thou shalt bring down the noise of strangers, as the heat in a dry place; even the
heat with the shadow of a cloud: the branch of the terrible ones shall be brought low.
- Jeremiah 32:17-19 Nothing is too hard for God
Ah Lord GOD! behold, thou hast made the heaven and the earth by thy great power and
stretched out arm, and there is nothing too hard for thee: Thou shewest lovingkindness
unto thousands, and recompensest the iniquity of the fathers into the bosom of their
children after them: the Great, the Mighty God, the LORD of hosts, is his name, Great
in counsel, and mighty in work: for thine eyes are open upon all the ways of the sons
of men: to give every one according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings:
- Lamentations 3:18-31 When God seems silent
And I said, My strength and my hope is perished from the LORD: Remembering mine
affliction and my misery, the wormwood and the gall. My soul hath them still in
remembrance, and is humbled in me. This I recall to my mind, therefore have I
hope. It is of the LORD'S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions
fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness. The LORD is my
portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him. The LORD is good unto them
that wait for him, to the soul that seeketh him. It is good that a man should both
hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the LORD. It is good for a man that he
bear the yoke in his youth. He sitteth alone and keepeth silence, because he hath
borne it upon him. He putteth his mouth in the dust; if so be there may be hope.
He giveth his cheek to him that smiteth him: he is filled full with reproach. For
the Lord will not cast off for ever:
