Time Spent With God Is Not Wasted
by Paul Leaman

Some labor very hard
as Martha of long ago.
Working to serve her Savior
wanting to please him so.

She prepared a fine meal,
the finest one could provide.
She wanted to please her Lord
Ah but in this, a bit of pride

She wanted to please him,
that he might love her more.
And seeing the great meal,
her love he couldn't ignore.

Then seeing all the work,
she started to fume and fret.
Mary was just sitting there,
And Martha was upset.

"Lord don't you care
that I must serve alone?"
She was so upset she now
spoke with a critical tone.

She had turned to the Lord,
but her thoughts were of self.
In trying to set a fine meal,
she wanted her sister's help.

Mary had chosen that good part,
and Jesus was pleased with her.
She was not being thoughtless
but Christ her heart did stir.

Martha, thou art careful
and troubled about many things.
You need to seek what Mary has,
and the blessings it will bring.

Now serving is not wrong,
serve him all you may.
But never lose that closeness,
and abide with him I pray.
