Could I By Way Of Reason
by Paul Leaman

Could I by the way of reason
Stir the strings of your soul?
Could I by the way of pleading
Move you, to seek to be whole?

Are you a sinner? So am I.
Do you deserve God's wrath? So do I.
Have you gone far astray? So have I.
Do you deserve Hell? So do I.

Yes, for many, many years
I just didn't care,
I gave no thought to dying
Nor of this did I despair.

Then a friend of mine lay dying
And it grieved me to see him so.
Then I wondered in my heart,
When he dies, where will he go?

The long arm of my Savior
Was reaching down to me,
He touched me just a little,
But I would not bend the knee.

Ah but, He was so very patient
And worked and worked in my heart,
His love to me was flowing
And my heart began to smart.

How could I turn from such love
From one who died for me.
How could I long endure,
Such pleading to set me free.

Would that you too might know,
The Savior, who loves you so.
Believe in Him today my friend,
Let His love to you overflow.
