I just finished a sermon,
That C. H. Spurgeon once gave,
Back in 1856,
A sermon that was very grave.
He said people of his day,
Didn't think it was right,
To speak of the wrath of God
And the fear it might incite.
By the way, Richard Baxter of old,
Preached "Turn or Burn" before him.
Puritans preached the wrath of God,
Sermons that were quite grim.
Well if it was unpopular back then,
It is so much more today.
I for one, like that kind of preaching,
For it is so needful in every way.
Jesus Christ alone can save you,
And from sin to Him you must TURN.
For it you die without Christ my friend,
In Hell forever you'll BURN!
