The First Christmas
by Paul Leaman

Oh that glorious, glorious night,
Illuminated by Godís glory.
Oh the benevolent love of God,
Oh what wondrous story.

The night,
The night sped away,
The glory of the Lord shone forth,
Round about as day.

The shepherds, wide-eyed with fear
Gazed as an angel exclaimed,
I bring you good tidings of great joy.
Oh the blessing, he proclaimed.

Unto you is born this day,
A Savior which is Christ the Lord.
Then a heavenly host appeared
All praising with one accord.

Glory to God in the highest,
Peace, good will toward men.
And when they had finished that saying,
They returned to heaven again.

The shepherds, so filled with wonder,
Longed to see the child.
With haste they found the babe
So little, so meek, so mild.

Could this be Messiah,
Our long awaited king?
Is He the true deliverer
And dost salvation He bring?

Ah yes my longing friend,
Yearning to be set free,
He alone came to save you
And to died for you and me.
