Words for Christian men,
Who turn to sin again;
They start out strong,
doing nothing wrong,
Then, then they fall,
Making light of it all.
"I have been cleansed,
I'm saved to the end."
Oh how black is your heart,
You had a good start,
But to think light of sin,
Oh how this grieves Him!
Is it nothing that He died
For you His holy bride?
From the dunghill He took you,
And cleansed you and saved you!
Why now has your heart grown cold?
Ah, His love is more precious than gold.
Why do you spurn His great love,
Turning from your Father above?
"We turn not away,
We love Him today;"
Yet you smite His face
And live in disgrace!
Oh turn ye, turn ye my friend,
How is it you can't comprehend?
The sheer awfulness of sin,
His child, turning from Him!
Sinners may kick against the pricks, that's bad,
But to kick against the wounds of Christ, is sad!
Oh the ingratitude of the vilest sort,
All language to express it falls short;
Oh that sin which nestles in your heart today,
Confess it and forsake it, without delay!
Yet, I that write this am no better than you,
For I have fallen and grieved my Lord too;
God help us in Thy mercy and grace,
And help us always, to look on Thy face.
