Thanksgiving
by Paul Leaman

As Christians, just how thankful are we?
Think now, Christ died on Calvary's tree!
What an awful sight - let your mind see it now,
The scourging of His back, the thorns on His brow.

The spittle on His dear face, the smiting with reeds,
The heavy cross, His raw back, as on He proceeds,
To the place of His dying, there on Golgotha's hill,
The driving of the spikes, Oh the thought gives a chill,

Nailing His hands, His feet to the tree,
To save us from sin and set our soul free.
Yes, he did so much on that day so long ago.
So this Thanksgiving Day, let your heart be all aglow!

Thank Him for salvation through the blood of Jesus Christ,
Thank Him for eternal life, brought at such a price;
Thank Him for your family, as you gather on this day.
Thank Him for the turkey and for all the grand display.

The food is so abundant, the table overflows.
The children gathered round, grandchildren all in rows
God gave us this abundant harvest on this Thanksgiving Day,
And to our God we give thanks and humbly, humbly pray.
