My promise, true, I give to you;
Pledged on the Holy Book.
I cannot say, "Forever aye,"
But only from His look.

He showed me how to love you;
Showed me what it well might cost.
He kept the pledge. He made us
So high! He paid great cost!

But, I could never promise this,
Except He taught me well;
I'll cling and cover, keep you safe,
As long as life can tell.
