I Love You, Goodbye
by Claytia Doran

Fifteen years is an awful long time
For me to watch over you.
I was there to lick your tears away,
Whenever you were sad and blue.

I would always do those stupid tricks
That you thought were so funny.
And, no matter what I ever did,
You'd say, "Mama loves you, honey."

I know I couldn't answer you
And tell you I loved you, too.
But, you already knew I did
By the little things I'd do.

But now. I'm tired and weary,
And God is calling me home.
I lay a paw across your arm.
You'll have to make it on your own.

You have to go on without me.
Yes, I know those tears are real.
Thank you for fifteen years
And for showing me how you feel.

I love you, Mama. Goodbye.
